Worth reading
Yorkshire food & drink blogs
Everybody knows that everything is better in Yorkshire. If you don’t believe us, you should come up here and we’ll explain why in minute detail. It’ll be a blast.
Some of us are talented, too, and know a thing or two about food and drink, including these fine people:
The Good Stuff - Leeds’ original beer blog. Engrossing and educational reading for anybody who likes a pint.
Leeds Grub – reviews of the best of Leeds’s exploding restaurant scene.
Are you taking the pith? – a temple to beer, written by one of Yorkshire’s most knowledgeable students of the field.
The Globe Troffers – the culinary adventures of a group of Leeds friends.
Sups – Si’s notes on pubs and ales. And maybe some other drinking…
Other blogs
It’s a big world. There are plenty of other great food blogs out there. Here’s some:
wasabi prime – one of the Pacific Northwest’s leading food blogs, written by one of it’s most talented foodies and beer monsters. Inspiring blogging. This is how it should be done.
Menu n Progress – lots of charcuterie and slightly left-field experiments. Great reading.
Foodmayhem - a massive blog, that probably needs no introduction. Part of the reason this blog exists.
Just Cook It – I know Alex is all famous now after his Masterchef adventure, but I’ve been reading his consistently brilliant blog for a couple of years. You’ve seen him cook up a storm on the telly, now witness his brilliant photography and excellent prose. ‘Talented’ barely starts to describe.
Sasasunakku – excellent blog from a half Kiwi, half Japanese blogger. Seek out Sasa on Twitter…she’s very funny.
Food heroes
The British Cheese Centre – a Swiss website run by an ex-pat Leodensian selling the best of British cheese to our discerning continental cousins.
Lishman’s of Ilkley – there is no better butcher in the North of England. This is fact. David Lishman’s pork and black pudding sausages are proof.
Coxon’s Kitchen – superb little deli in Saltaire.
The Cool Chile Co. – the place to buy proper chiles. The subtle difference between different varieties of proper chiles is astounding.
Food photography
I’m constantly amazed that the beyond-strict invigilators at these sites sometimes notice my existence and publish one of my photos…
Assorted genius
Why, Miss Jones – I shared many a boring university tutorial with Miss Jones. It does not surprise me in the slightest that her blog is as funny and perceptive as it is.
FFFFOUND! – page after page of awesome design. FFFFOUND!’s iPhone app got kicked out by Apple because some of the pictures included breasts, the Philistines.
The Culture Vulture – if it’s happening in Leeds, it’s on here.
Seattle Daily Photo – if you need a template for the perfect photo blog, here it is. Head and shoulders above the rest of the ‘daily photo’ crowd.
